Welcome!
The M.A. ‘E-LINGO - Teaching languages to young learners’ is an accredited part-time distance course taught by the University of Education in Freiburg (Germany) and deals with the teaching of English and French to young learners at pre-school and primary level. It is a two-year course and begins each winter semester. It is a distance learning course but students will be expected to attend one face-to-face meeting per semester (the first on a Thursday/Friday, the others Friday/Saturday), thus giving them the opportunity to study without the constraints of time and place of a campus-based course, but allowing them to profit from the advantages of social contacts. The programme focuses on the linking of reflective practice to teaching, language and literature theory and development psychology. An integral part of each semester will be a classroom-based action research project.
The E-LINGO project
The declared goal of the European Commission is that everybody be able to speak at least two foreign languages. In order to achieve this, children of pre- and primary school age will need both suitable language learning opportunities and qualified teachers. This course, developed within the framework of the E-LINGO Project, will prepare students for a career as a cultural and language mediator for young children.
